HBO’s new documentary series,
Not So Pretty, takes a critical investigative look at the beauty industry and the numerous
health risks associated with certain cosmetics products.
The first episode, “Makeup,” highlights the hidden dangers of
talc-based makeup, the same ingredient found in
Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder, which has been proven to be contaminated with asbestos. The episode draws
on scientific evidence, leaked company memos, legal cases, and personal
stories of people diagnosed with mesothelioma to illustrate the devastating
consequences of talc in cosmetics and the vast implications of an unregulated
beauty industry.
Not So Pretty empowers consumers with actions they can take to lessen their risk of
exposure with the hope that mounting public pressure will continue to build on
recent government action.
