Here’s a chance to eat, drink, dine and be merry at a yacht club
in an iconic Southern California harbor, while raising money for mesothelioma research.
In conjunction with Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer initiative, the Pacific
Meso Center is holding a dinner and fundraiser at the Dana Point Yacht
Club on Saturday, April 30th. The fundraiser will kick off the Amgen Breakaway
from Cancer bike race the next day in beautiful downtown Dana Point.
Dr. Robert Cameron of UCLA Medical School will be among the list of speakers,
which include cancer survivors and professional bike racing legends. Dinner
and drinks are included in the very reasonable price - FREE!. This is
an evening for the whole family.
A highlight of the evening will be the silent auction. Thanks to the generous
support of a bevy of wonderful people and companies, we have gathered
an incredible list of gifts you’ll absolutely want to bid on.
Auction items include: Two night stay with Dinner for two at the Ritz Carlton
Resort in Dana Point (valued at $1,600); two box seats at the Lakers Conference
Semi Finals (valued over $1,000); 18k white gold diamond stud earrings
valued at $2,500 (donated by a jeweler who recently lost her husband to
meso); a breathtaking original water color collage by Mada Leach (valued
at $3,200 – if you don’t buy it, I will!); and a treasure
trove of artwork, fine wine, golf outings, romantic weekend getaways,
elegant dinners, dance lessons, and nutritious gift baskets.
It’s not very often that a small not for profit charity that supports
research on a rare disease can build an alliance with an iconic California
coastal town and a giant biotech company like Amgen, Inc. If you’ve
been impacted by cancer, no matter the cell type, please come on down
and support the effort.
If you’ve been
affected directly by mesothelioma, you won’t get a better chance to meet with those similarly afflicted
and give back, both in emotional and financial support. If you’re
an asbestos cancer lawyer, you’ve done great things for your clients, you’ve gone for
the gold and won but now’s the time to give back to the larger meso
community. Heck, you’ll come out ahead by having a chance to bid
on and buy great gift items (romantic weekend!) at below retail.
And don’t forget, the next day, Sunday, May 1st, is the big day of
pro-am criterium bike races in downtown Dana Point. Next to the men’s
pro race and the kids races, the highlight promises to be the Breakaway
from Cancer walk. Please come down and help fill the streets with survivors,
family members, caregivers and advocates who believe with hard work, resources,
hope and teamwork a better day is coming for cancer patients.
On a personal note, I want to thank all the volunteers who have worked
tirelessly to put this extraordinary weekend together. I want to thank
in particular the City of Dana Point, Amgen and the Pacific Meso Center.
An amazing collection of motivated people who believe that good things
will come to those who do good for the right reasons. Also want to thank
my dear sweet Mother, Juniel Worthington, for her door-to-door, old school
perseverance and abiding optimism in collecting all the fabulous gifts
and prizes. Way to go Mom!
See you at the Dana Point Yacht Club and at the races. You bring your walking
shoes, camera and wallet, and we'll provide the prizes, race course,
California cuisine, libations and good vibrations.
